Injury Prevention
 |
An Accident and Emergency Department Injury Surveillance System
(AEDISS) was established in December 2001 at the San Fernando General
Hospital (SFGH) in Trinidad from an initial grant from IDRC Canada. An
evaluation of the system was conducted in June 2005 through a partnership
with the Caribbean Epidemiology Centre (CAREC), the Southwest Regional
Health Authority (SWRHA), Trinidad, and the McLaughlin Centre. In
November 2005 researchers and policy makers from CAREC, the SWRHA,
the Ministry of Health, Trinidad & Tobago, and the McLaughlin
Centre met in Trinidad in order to initiate a strategy for the expansion
of injury surveillance throughout Trinidad & Tobago. A
funding proposal has been submitted to extend the collaboration between
researchers and the McLaughlin Centre and in Trinidad to develop
an integrated research program to reduce the burden of injury in
Trinidad & Tobago and the Caribbean. |
